Current Courses

  • Multi-tiered Line Design and Staking Certification
    Provided as a three- or four- tiered program designed to educate your distribution design technicians in the art and science of utility pole line design..
  • Advanced Line Design
    Utilizes the knowledge gained in the Line Design and Staking Certification course, and the expected on-the-job experience, with the broad ranging diversity involved in designing for multiple circuit pole lines, very large conductors, and other extreme design situations.
  • Underground Power Design
    A two-stage program that educates students in underground power distribution design - from single spans to multi-phased commercial and industrial situations.
  • Line Design and Staking Concepts for Lineman
    Consists of a one-day seminar to allow utility line workers to gain a breath of information and understanding of the process and practice required to bring aerial and underground distribution power lines to their ready-to-build state.
  • 2007 NESC Update Seminar
    This one-day seminar breaks down the changes in the latest National Electric Safety Code in an easily understood manner.
  • NESC / Electric Utility Arc Flash Requirements
    Another single-day seminar that delves into the 2007 National Electrical Safety Code’s (NESC) new rule 410A3, which states, “Effective January 1, 2009, the employer shall ensure that an assessment is performed to determine potential exposure to an electric arc for employees who work on or near energized parts or equipment.

New courses for 2010

  • Vegetation Management
    This course is being developed for employees that may influence long-term vegetation management efforts. It will provide information on such topics as basic utility arboriculture, customer service skills, pruning cycles, scheduling, emergency response, and long-term service reliability.
  • Power System Design for the Industrial and Large Power Customer
    This new course will include such topics as: understanding power needs of the commercial and industrial customer, calculating power requirements, developing power quality guidelines, Large Transformer Sizing and Specifications, and Overcurrent Protection and Coordination
  • Fuses, Reclosers, Breakers – System Protection for Operations
    This new course will be tailored for Operations and non-engineering personnel and will cover topics such as: Operating Details of the Protective Device, Why and How the Protective Device is Selected, What happens to the system when a Protective Device Operates, What is Fault Current and What it means to Operations and a solid Review of New Technology
  • Designing Steel Pole and Concrete Pole Structures
    This course will anchor our line design curriculum and will help the senior design engineer with NESC/RUS Design Requirements, we’ll also Review of NESC Rules 250-C and 250-D, gain and understanding of Mechanical and Structural Design Analysis and the most recent software applications, and we’ll delve into the Development of Manufacturer Specifications, Grounding Details and Construction Requirements.
